About Teri Nielsen
Teri spent 28 years living and working in Seattle before relocating in 2016 to southern Utah, drawn to the landscape and the red rocks that inspire her. She works with a wide spectrum of people - from high-functioning corporate professionals, first responders, and healthcare workers to fellow therapists and those new to therapy seeking a firmer emotional foundation. Her approach aims to create a space where clients can explore the obstacles that keep them from moving forward while engaging in an active and direct therapeutic process.
Her clinical work is trauma-informed and grounded in evidence-based methods. She integrates Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Existential and Jungian perspectives, the Gottman Method, Mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive approaches, Solution-Focused techniques, Somatic and Trauma-Focused therapies, Internal Family Systems, and Systemic Therapy. Teri identifies as both a Jungian and an experiential therapist and has taught MBSR - Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course - incorporating its elements to address anxiety and underlying patterns that contribute to addictive behaviors.
Her work is informed not only by formal training but also by life experience as a woman, daughter, sister, wife, and mother. Since 1993 she has maintained a personal Vipassana meditation practice, which continues to inform her therapeutic perspective. Teri values the transformative potential of thoughtful reflection and steady practice, and she encourages clients to bring grit, honesty, and a strong commitment to themselves as they engage in change. She emphasizes compassion as a guiding principle and recognizes the courage it takes to reach out for help.
