About Shannon Madden

Shannon Madden is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Arizona with a long history in crisis and trauma work. Her practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - she uses structured tools, such as worksheets, to help people identify the beliefs that shape emotions and behaviors, and she integrates neurobiology education to illustrate how changing brain processes can speed therapeutic progress. She often uses light humor early in the therapeutic relationship to ease tension and normalize common responses to difficult situations.

Professionally, Shannon earned a Master of Counseling from the University of Phoenix in 2002 and a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix in 2001. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University and pursued doctoral coursework in neuropsychology at Argosy University from 2010 to 2013, though she did not complete that program. To maintain her LPC credential she completes 30 hours of continuing education every two years and has pursued extensive training in EMDR, posttraumatic stress disorder, neuropsychology, and mood and anxiety conditions.

Shannon began her career as a crisis counselor for the Phoenix Fire Department while completing her masters, and she later provided crisis counseling in hospital emergency departments across the Valley. She moved into roles focused on PTSD treatment for police, firefighters, and military personnel, then served as Director of Psychological Health for the Arizona Army National Guard in 2013, supporting soldiers through deployment transitions, suicide prevention, PTSD, and military sexual trauma. After helping open Quail Run Behavioral Health Hospital as Director of Intake and Assessment, she moved into a telecommuting position with Arizona's state crisis system. She missed providing individual counseling and was thrilled to be part of the Better Help team.

Raised in Flagstaff and now living in Phoenix, Shannon is a third generation Arizonan. A personal experience with sudden family loss and recovery from PTSD following a brief period of military service influenced her decision to pursue counseling. She has been divorced twice, recently relocated to be closer to family and friends, and enjoys travel, crocheting, and spending time with her two dachshunds.
