About Richard McCranie
Richard frames therapy as a collaborative alliance forged through open communication about feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. He views the therapeutic relationship as a two-way process in which both client and therapist engage to clarify what has become unmanageable or unclear, set attainable goals, and build skills to better manage stress. While outcomes cannot be guaranteed, he commits his training and experience to support clients in working toward their goals.
He earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and history from the University of Georgia in 2004 and began his early career at The Marcus Institute as a primary therapist working with individuals on the autism spectrum and those with ongoing behavioral health needs. In 2007 he moved to New York City and served as a Case Manager Supervisor with Partnership of Innovative Comprehensive Care, Inc., supporting case managers who worked with developmental, intellectual, and mental health populations.
After returning to South Georgia in 2011, he completed a Master of Science in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Valdosta State University while working as a graduate teaching assistant and interning at Behavioral Health Services of South Georgia. He later held roles at Crescent Pines/Anchor Hospital and The DeKalb Community Service Board as an admissions and intake counselor, and in 2014 he joined Ascena Health (St. Jude’s Recovery Center, Inc.) in admissions. By 2015 he was providing one-on-one therapy and case management in residential and outpatient settings. He earned his professional counselor license in 2018 and continued treating individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders in both residential and outpatient care.
In 2019 he expanded his responsibilities by serving as Medication Assisted Treatment coordinator and residential manager supervisor, and he also helped launch an outpatient program focused on reentry support for federal offenders on probation. In 2023 he accepted a position as Director of Clinical Services overseeing clinical and residential programs, and later that year he established a private practice where he continues to provide professional care and services to people with addictive, behavioral, and mental health concerns.

Could Virtual Therapy Be a Good Fit for You?
Many people wonder whether meeting with a therapist online can be meaningful. For a range of common concerns - such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes - online therapy is often comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care. One of the main benefits is flexibility. People can connect with therapists in the format that works best for their schedules and comfort level - video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life and to maintain consistent progress.
Licensed professionals provide care remotely, and if a different therapeutic fit is desired it is possible to switch therapists. Online therapy offers a practical option for accessing trained therapists and for continuing work on mental health and life concerns in ways that match individual needs.
