About Michael Michnya
He seeks clients who believe positive change is possible, who bring hope for the future and readiness for change. Michael emphasizes that lasting progress arises from work done both inside and outside sessions - patience, persistence, timely attendance, honest communication, and completion of assigned tasks all matter. He looks to collaborate with people who value creativity, risk-taking, open communication, and a willingness to explore what is and is not working in their lives.
Dedicated to helping others tap their creativity and existing strengths, he aims to quickly identify and add the resources clients need to reach their goals. When clients are prepared to pursue success, he offers guidance to find practical solutions and make changes that endure.
Michael began his helping career in 1980 as a preschool teacher and in 1981 volunteered with the Child Abuse Prevention Effort. From 1982 to 1986 he served as a counselor at The Bridge, also known as The Therapeutic Center at Fox Chase, a long-term rehabilitation program for teenage substance abusers. After earning a master’s degree in counseling psychology, he was the primary counselor and coordinator for the Cape Counseling Services Family-Adolescent Alcohol Program from 1986 to 1990, providing individual, group, and family counseling to children, teenagers, and families.
As a program manager at Family Service Association from 1990 to 2014, he trained and supervised more than 30 in-home counselors working with families where children were at risk of out-of-home placement, often due to abusive or neglectful parenting or significant adolescent acting-out behavior. He also oversaw a less intensive in-home parenting education program and three juvenile diversion programs. While building his private practice after that period, he continued providing individual, group, and family counseling at a short-term rehabilitation program for adults with addictive disease, at a for-profit community agency, and in a federally qualified health center. Across roles as teacher, counselor, coach, program manager, and clinical supervisor, he has helped thousands of people change their lives for the better.
He holds the LPC credential, which stands for Licensed Professional Counselor, and combines signature strengths - creativity, optimism, and knowledge - with research-tested methods to encourage personal, relational, and spiritual growth. His vision centers on a kinder, more compassionate world where people live and work together peacefully and abundantly. His purpose is to help others learn, grow, and make new choices that support longer, healthier, happier, and more connected lives.

Could Online Therapy Be a Good Fit?
Many people wonder whether online therapy can make a meaningful difference. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and major life transitions - online therapy has been shown to be comparable to traditional in-person sessions for many individuals. One of the main advantages is flexibility. People can connect with licensed professionals in the format that fits their life best: video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility often makes it easier to incorporate therapy into busy schedules and to maintain continuity of care across changing circumstances.
Licensed professionals provide these remote services, and individuals may switch therapists if they seek a different fit. For many seeking support with common emotional and relational concerns, online therapy offers an accessible, practical option that aligns with contemporary lives.
