Laurie Stricker, LMSW

Laurie Stricker is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with 27 years of professional experience supporting individuals and families through a wide range of challenges. She earned her Master of Social Work degree in April 1998 while working full-time and began her career after volunteering at a domestic violence shelter, which shaped her early interest in assisting at-risk families.

Her first role after graduate school was in the foster care system, where she developed a practical understanding of child welfare, family dynamics, and related legal processes. Laurie later returned to her hometown in northeast Michigan to serve as an infant mental health specialist, gaining specialized skills in trauma work, family therapy, and the practice of meeting clients in their own homes.

Laurie expanded her clinical repertoire at a local hospital's behavioral health services, providing individual psychotherapy to people of all ages and backgrounds and building experience with in-patient units focused on substance use and mental health treatment. Her subsequent work with the VA further broadened her perspective and clinical knowledge. Across these roles she has become comfortable applying multiple therapeutic approaches, including client-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and trauma-focused therapy.

Today Laurie describes herself as a well-rounded therapist who adapts her methods to fit the needs of diverse clients, drawing on decades of hands-on experience in community, hospital, and veteran care settings. As an LMSW, she combines formal training and practical experience to support people coping with stress, anxiety, trauma, relationship and family concerns, depression, life changes, addictions, sleep difficulties, parenting issues, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and related areas.
