About Barry Golten

Barry Golten trained as an Integrative Counsellor in the late 1990s and then applied those developing skills across the charity support sector, first as a support worker and subsequently for 19 years as a manager. Over time he continued to refine his practice and in 2021 joined KCA Training as a Trainer and Consultant delivering courses on trauma, attachment and resilience.

Around 2008 his interest shifted toward Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and after qualifying in that model in 2012 he began offering therapy, coaching and training grounded in solution-focused principles. He was drawn to the idea that change can be achieved without needing a full analysis of the problem, and he integrates that confidence in clients' own resources into his work.

In recent years Barry has woven together his varied training and experience into an integrated approach that combines a person-centred respect for all parts of the self, a psychodynamic awareness of how past relationships and events shape present patterns, and the pragmatic, goal-oriented emphasis of solution-focused practice. These elements are offered within a regular therapeutic relationship founded on trust. He holds the BACP credential - the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the UK professional body for counsellors and psychotherapists - and aims to be fully present in sessions, accompanying clients on a journey of exploration, hope and possibility.
